The Flour tortilla is the ultimate easy piece of bread to make. It was first introduce in Northern Mexico in the 1500's. It cousin the corn tortilla was first made 12,000 years before this guy came out. A flour tortilla is very easy and one of the most basic pieces of bread you'll ever make in your life.
Ingredients
Flour = All purpose flour is going to be your best choice.
Salt = Any salt is okay but i like to use celtic salt because of the earthy flavor out of it.
Water
Oil = EVOO or Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Shaping your dough
When you shape your dough your going to want to put it in a circular motion while tucking your fingers inside. It very easy but takes practice. If your bread is sticking while your tucking then put some flour around it and a towel over it so the dough relaxes for a little while. If you do it right your dough should have a somewhat cymetrical ball look a like.
Resting
Resting is part of the normal ways of having a piece of dough. When you work and beat the dough it becomes very tough and rigid. This is because the gluten inside of it is constantly getting worked and moved over and over again. When you want your dough to rest your having that gluten relax itself and make it easier for you to work on it. Normally letting this piece of dough rest is around 15 minutes or so.
Water Temperature
Now it may not seem a big thing for water to be a little hot or a little cold but it actually very important. When your making bread with or with out yeast most of the time your always going to need warm water. Reason for this is because yeast lives in a warm environment around 100 to 110 degrees. Now with rapid yeast it different it activates to 120 to 130 degrees. With flour tortillas it best just to use warm water since it helps the body of the dough.
