The Comparative Efficacy of Freeze-Dried Cannabis Versus Dispensary Weed in Modern Consumption

Updated: 14 hours ago

As the cannabis industry evolves, new methods of consumption continually emerge, making it essential for users to carefully evaluate their options. Among these, freeze-dried cannabis and traditional dispensary weed stand out as two popular choices. Understanding their differences is crucial for enhancing your cannabis experience, given the varying characteristics in preparation, storage, and consumption.

In this blog post, we will explore the comparative efficacy of freeze-dried cannabis versus dispensary weed, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each option to assist consumers in making informed choices.

Understanding Freeze-Dried Cannabis

Freeze-drying is an innovative preservation technique that removes moisture while maintaining the chemical composition of a substance. When applied to cannabis, this method preserves terpenes and cannabinoids, resulting in a potent and flavorful experience.

The process starts with freshly harvested cannabis, which is placed in a freeze-dryer. The plant material undergoes extreme cold temperatures and is then gradually warmed under a vacuum. This not only eliminates moisture but also creates a unique texture and flavor profile.

One significant advantage of freeze-dried cannabis is its impressive shelf life. By removing moisture, the growth of mold and bacteria is prevented. This means users can store their product long-term without worrying about losing potency. For example, research indicates that freeze-dried cannabis can maintain 90% of its potency for up to two years when stored correctly.

The Appeal of Dispensary Weed

Dispensary weed represents a more traditional method of cannabis consumption. This product typically undergoes drying and curing processes, producing a range of strains that cater to various preferences. In fact, many dispensaries offer between 50 to 100 different strains at any given time.

Purchasing from a licensed dispensary provides essential benefits, including compliance with safety regulations. This ensures consumers enjoy high-quality products devoid of harmful contaminants. Additionally, many dispensaries provide detailed information about cannabinoid profiles and effects, simplifying the decision-making process.

For instance, a dispensary might offer strains such as Blue Dream, celebrated for its uplifting effects with a THC content around 18%, or ACDC, which has a high CBD content of approximately 20%, making it ideal for users seeking therapeutic benefits without psychoactive effects.

Comparing Potency and Effectiveness

When discussing potency, the experiment that I did shows that people were wanting more to eat the substance in freeze dry form then in the dispensary form. The potency in the freeze dry was 27 percent THC while the dispensary was 15.3 percent. Now yes, the freeze was more in THC but what I found out is when smoking it for average consumer who been smoking for years didnt feel any effect and said it "tasted bland and like oregano". While regular weed from the dispensary had more of a flavor and after effect. People who ate edibles made from them were more interested and satisfy with the impact of freeze dry weed.

Convenience and Storage

Convenience plays a significant role in choosing between freeze-dried cannabis and dispensary weed. The lightweight and compact nature of freeze-dried cannabis makes it ideal for travel, outdoor activities, or simply storing at home. Its long shelf life means users don’t have to worry about their product going stale or losing potency quickly.

On the contrary, dispensary weed typically requires careful storage to avoid moisture and environmental contaminants. This might involve investing in special containers or engaging in regular purchases to ensure a fresh product. For instance, cannabis can lose 20% of its potency within a few months if not stored in optimal conditions.

Flavor and Aroma Profiles

Both freeze-dried cannabis and dispensary weed showcase unique flavor and aroma profiles. Freeze-dried cannabis has a mild to almost no smell aroma through the nose. The flavor was less intense and was very dry so it burn really easily. Which is different from dispensary weed since it has little bit of moisture still inside.

On the other hand, dispensary weed offers a wide array of flavors and aromas. Some strains are specifically cultivated for fruity or earthy notes, while others emphasize their therapeutic effects. With so many options, consumers often find it rewarding to explore different strains to discover their favorites.

Cost Considerations

Price is another important factor in the cannabis selection process. Freeze-dried cannabis generally comes with a higher price tag due to advanced technology and labor costs involved in its production. However, given its potency and longevity, many users find it justifiable for high-quality freeze-dried options.

Conversely, dispensary weed offers a broader price range, catering to both budget-conscious consumers and those willing to pay for premium options. For example, an eighth of high-quality dispensary weed may range from $25 to $60, while freeze-dried cannabis could cost upwards of $70 for the same quantity.

Pictures from the test

In these pictures, you will see the dispensary and freeze dried weed in two different containers of ever clear 190 grain alcohol. The dispensary has more of a darker color because when baking you active the ternions inside and the moisture starts to heat so it makes this dark color for the weed. Now the lighter color one has been baked off too but it doesn't change color at all. This is because the freeze dried weed has no moisture inside of it so it stays it consistent color to the baking process.

If you want to try it at home for an efficent process for your edibles try this baking method:

  • Set your oven to 275 degrees for at least 15 minutes

  • Then grind up your weed as fine as possible

  • Spread it on a sheet pan very even on there

  • Then bake for 20 minutes and you should start to smell the activation

  • For every half of an once of weed put 3/4 a cup of ever clear inside a glass container

  • Automatically put it inside the freezer so you don't have any sunlight hitting it. If you leave it in the sunlight for too long the chlorophyll inside the weed will turn too green and have a weird smell through the process.

The People Who Know It All

At my current job right now, I have met a lot of interesting people and one those people is a good man name Derrick. He came all the way to Arizona to see his good friend Nick. Now Nick is a entrepreneur and genius who loves to drink and smoke some good ass weed. Nick is making a company name Floteq that helps you as a business owner watch your beer more closely then ever. It scans how many times your bartender has pour beer from the keg, tells you temperature of the beer if it getting to warm or it becoming too cold, and sends you notifications if anyone is pouring beer at a certain time their not suppose too.

Now Derrick comes in hand and tells me about this freeze dried weed he has. For me I have never heard of this before, but he and his buddy are growing weed so big that it fits in the palm of their hand and uses a freeze dry machine to preserve the weed more. I thought that was the coolest thing ever so that when I started the test and found some really interesting points from both ends of the dispensary vs freeze dry.

This Is Our World

The culinary world works in very crazy wonderful ways and this is one of them. These two gentleman are changing two different types of routes for the culinary game. They take the seeds from simply sprout, grow big weed, freeze dry it, and make AI machines for beer.
